The Commitment to the Vision

We are now at the point of choosing to commit to the vision. No vision will exist until a leader assembles all these observations and reflections and distills them into a creative new direction. The vision then has to be translated into reality. A vision is little more than an empty dream until it is widely shared and accepted. How does a vision become widely shared? The leader becomes a change agent and coach for the vision. The formula for formula for visionary leadership can be expressed as:

Vision + Communication = Shared Purpose

Leadership is about change. Building creative teams in today’s organization’s new leaders should be aware of the turbulent economic and social forces that are the foundation of such rapid transformations. As a result, more opportunities have presented themselves, but hazards have increased as well. Understanding and successfully coping with change is a discipline the new leader must master. In the next section we will illustrate the eight steps necessary to bring about change.

The rate of change in the business world is not going to slow down anytime soon. If anything, competition in most industries will probably speed up over the next few decades.
