Finding the Right Vision

Finding the right vision means making sure it fits into the company’s history, culture and values. The vision should be right for the times and provide a realistic and informed picture of what is possible in the future. It should be communicated and understood easily so that there is clarity of purpose and direction. A good vision is ambitious and idealistic. Vision is cultivated through learning everything you can about your organization, similar organizations and your industry, while being careful not ignore the interest of major stakeholders. Other ingredients to a viable vision are being open-minded, well informed and possessing a certain amount of intuition.

Conducting a Vision Audit

Conduct a vision audit to ascertain and understand the organization’s current situation by asking a few honest questions to determine what business we are really in, and how we operate. For example “what are the strengths and weakness of the organization? Or what are the culture and values that govern behavior and decision-making? In what direction is the organization headed and is this a good direction? Questions like these and other carefully thought out questions will help in determining a proper vision for your organization’s creative team.
